What makes a balanced Christian life? When we stop to think about it, all living things grow. If a child is not growing in physical stature we become concerned about this. Healthy things grow. We plant a tomato seed in the ground and we expect there to be growth that brings forth a tomato plant that brings tomatoes. The Christian life is meant to grow. In fact, the Bible tells us that God has a supreme purpose for our life: to conform us to the image of His Son. “ For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.” Romans 8:29. The New Testament gives us at least five key purposes to live the Christian life. Keeping those five purposes in harmony brings about a “balanced” and “healthy” Christian life. Those purposes or priorities are: worship, discipleship, ministry, fellowship and evangelism or mission. In the next several blogs I will briefly discuss each of these priorities for the Christian life.
